Announcing Art of Mindfulness!

The Art of Mindfulness is an initiative started by UCalgary’s STEM Art Hub with the goal of reducing the stigma around mental health and promoting an empathetic science-based understanding of mental health. The mental-health-themed artwork created for this project will be auctioned off to raise funds for the Mathison Centre for Mental Health, which is a centre dedicated to mental health research and education.

First Initiative: Biweekly Draw and Chat!

STEM Art Hub is very excited to announce our very first “Draw & Chat” event. This event will take place on Friday, February 26th from 6-7 pm MST. All future Draw & Chat events will be happening on a biweekly basis. Draw & Chat events are an opportunity for STEM Art Hub members to relax, unwind, and get to know each other, all the while engaging in fun STEM-themed art activities.

In keeping with Black History Month, our first Draw & Chat activity will be in remembrance of Katherine Johnson, a prominent Black mathematician for NASA! Her contributions to the advancement of space flight were instrumental to NASA, in 1961. Johnson’s calculations made it possible for NASA to put the first American in space, and later, on the moon. We hope to see you all there!
